The story of our water
Born from a single Alpine spring above the clouds. Naturally rich in minerals. Bottled in award-winning glass since 1964.
Where the water begins
Chiarella is a premium mineral water sourced exclusively from Mount Grona above Lake Como, at nearly 1,000 metres above sea level. Filtered through ancient Dolomite rock over decades, it arrives naturally rich in calcium, magnesium, and potassium, with one of the lowest sodium levels in Europe. From its Alpine spring to your table, nothing is added, and nothing is changed.
Moulded into every bottle
The same landscape is cast in glass relief at the base of each bottle, designed by Lorenzo Palmeri. The lake, the shoreline, the mountains behind it.
Choose your water
Still or sparkling. 700mL or 920mL. Every variant carries the same spring water: pristine, mineral-rich, sealed in glass, and delivered to your door.
The art of drinking together
The Symposion Line takes its name from the ancient Greek tradition of gathering and drinking together, in good company. Each bottle is crafted with a glass-moulded relief of the Lake Como landscape, designed by Lorenzo Palmeri and recognisable by touch alone. It is water dressed for the occasion.
On the tables that set the standard
Passalacqua. Villa d’Este. Grand Hotel Tremezzo. Three of the most celebrated hotels on Lake Como, and among the most demanding hosts in the world, have chosen Chiarella as the water that belongs on their tables. For properties where every detail is curated, the water is no exception. These are renowned brands that do not compromise on a single detail. Neither do we.
Glass, always
We have never sold our water in plastic. Glass is recyclable, carries no chemicals into the water, and, quite simply, works great for anyone looking to enjoy premium water. Our commitment to sustainability is long-standing; from the day we first bottled at the source, glass has been the only vessel we trust. It is the only vessel worthy of what’s inside.
Frequently asked questions
What is premium mineral water?
Premium mineral water is sourced from a protected underground aquifer with a consistent, verified mineral composition, defined by its origin, not a manufacturing process. Unlike standard bottled water brands, premium waters are defined by their origin, their mineral composition, and their bottling process. Chiarella is a dedicated natural mineral water bottled exclusively in glass at the source. Nothing added, nothing altered.
What is the difference between mineral water, spring water, and regular bottled water?
There are three main types of bottled water. Natural mineral water must maintain a consistent mineral profile from a protected underground source, with nothing added or removed. Spring water naturally flows to the surface and encounters fewer restrictions. Purified water, the most common category, is treated tap or groundwater that has been processed to remove dissolved solids, often with minerals added back artificially.
Chiarella is a certified natural mineral water, the most tightly regulated category, making it the most reliable choice for people who care about what they bring into their home.
What does Chiarella mineral water taste like?
Chiarella has a clean and crisp taste. The low sodium keeps it neutral and refreshing, while calcium and magnesium give it a refined character that enhances food and wine. The still water is perfect for day-to-day hydration, while the sparkling natural mineral water adds a gentle sparkle ideal for dining. People who care deeply about taste, chefs, sommeliers, and the world’s best hotels, choose Chiarella for exactly this reason.
Why choose mineral water in glass bottles over plastic?
Glass is chemically inert and preserves the natural taste and mineral profile of the water exactly as it was at the source, something plastic bottled water brands cannot guarantee. From a sustainability standpoint, glass is endlessly recyclable without degrading in quality, making it the most responsible long-term choice.
Every bottle of Chiarella sparkling water and still water is sealed in glass because we are committed to delivering the water exactly as nature made it.
Is Chiarella an artesian water or a spring water?
Chiarella is a certified natural mineral water, a more tightly regulated category than either artesian water or standard spring water. It is sourced from a single protected underground aquifer on Mount Grona, where it filters through ancient Dolomite rock before reaching the Chiarella Spring. The mineral composition is verified and consistent across every bottle.
How is Chiarella different from other premium water brands?
Most premium water brands are defined by their packaging. Chiarella is defined by its source. First discovered and bottled in 1964, it comes from one spring, is family-owned, and has never been blended with water from any other source or acquired by a larger group. It is the water of choice at Passalacqua, ranked the #1 hotel in the world, and we are committed to ensuring every order reflects the same standard.
What products does Chiarella offer and how do I order?
We offer a selection of still and sparkling bottled water in 700mL and 920mL glass bottles, available as 6-packs and delivered to your door. Our products are carefully packaged to arrive in perfect condition. Whether you stay hydrated with still water day to day or reach for sparkling water at the table, there is a Chiarella bottle made for the moment.
