More Than Water, A Standard
Most Italian bottled water on store shelves is owned by multinationals and produced at an industrial scale. Chiarella is not that.
The Chiarella Spring sits on Mount Grona at nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, fed by an alpine watershed and filtered naturally through ancient Dolomitic rock formations over centuries. By the time it reaches the source, the water carries a precise mineral balance. It’s high in calcium and magnesium, remarkably low in sodium, with a neutral pH that gives it a clean, soft character on the palate.
Still water reveals all of this without distraction. Where sparkling water adds effervescence and texture, still water lets the source speak for itself. That smoothness is why Chiarella still mineral water is the house water at some of Lake Como's most distinguished hotels, including Passalacqua, Villa d'Este, and Grand Hotel Tremezzo.
We have been bottling at our Plesio facility since 1964, a plant that was once described as "the most panoramic bottling plant in Europe for mineral waters," and not much has changed since. Three generations in, the operation remains small, independent, and focused on a single thing: getting this water from the mountain to your table without compromise.
Every bottle we use is glass. The design, by Lorenzo Palmeri, earned the Good Design Award and IF Design Award and features the Lake Como landscape engraved directly into the bottle. No label wrap, no plastic sleeve. The bottle itself tells you where the water comes from.
Chiarella still bottled water is great for everyday use. Drink it at meals, use it in the kitchen, or even keep a case stocked at home through a subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Chiarella different from other Italian bottled water brands like Acqua Panna?
Acqua Panna is owned by the Nestlé/S. Pellegrino group and sourced from Tuscany. Chiarella, on the other hand, is family-owned and sourced from a single alpine spring above Lake Como, and bottles exclusively in glass. The mineral profiles are also different. Chiarella has one of the lowest sodium levels in Europe at 0.9 mg/l, along with higher levels of calcium and magnesium. It’s the preferred still bottled water at luxury Lake Como hotels, including Passalacqua and Villa d'Este.
What does "still" mineral water mean?
Still means no carbonation. The water is bottled exactly as it flows from the mountain source, with its full natural mineral profile intact. Many people prefer still water for daily hydration and food pairing because it lets the mineral character come through without the texture of bubbles. For those who prefer gentle effervescence, Chiarella also produces an Italian sparkling mineral water, bottled at source in the same award-winning glass.
Is Chiarella still bottled water suitable for babies and infants?
The exceptionally low sodium content in our Italian still mineral water meets European standards for infant consumption. The balanced mineral profile and neutral pH make it gentle enough for the youngest members of your family. Always consult your pediatrician about your baby's specific needs.
